Hambone Relay is a Funk-Soul organ trio based in Los Angeles, known for their electrifying blend of deep-groove funk, vintage soul, jazz improvisation, and blues-infused psychedelia. Founded in Philadelphia in 2012 by Hammond B3 organist Mark Brown, the band quickly built a reputation for high-energy performances, gritty musicianship, and a sound that pays homage to classic organ trios while pushing the genre into unpredictable new territory.

With the original lineup featuring Rob Tait on drums and Luke Ferracone on guitar, Hambone Relay became a staple of the East Coast live-music scene. Before 2020, the group was touring heavily—performing nearly 100 shows a year—and released three studio albums. Their sophomore record, Free Hugs, received strong praise, especially in their hometown of Philadelphia, where it enjoyed frequent airplay on WXPN and helped cement their reputation as one of the region’s most dynamic modern funk groups.

In 2020, the band took a brief hiatus. A year later, Hambone Relay reemerged on the West Coast with a refreshed lineup and revitalized sound. Now calling Los Angeles home, the trio features founder Mark Brown on Hammond B3, Ben Pham on drums, and Trevor Boggs on guitar. Together, they continue the band’s tradition of crafting danceable grooves, soulful melodies, and exploratory jam-section improvisations.

Throughout their history, Hambone Relay has collaborated with a wide range of guest musicians and vocalists, further expanding their musical palette. They have shared stages with celebrated artists including Rebirth Brass Band, The James Hunter Six, Booker T. Washington, Cris Jacobs, Kung Fu, and Pimps of Joytime, earning fans across the funk, jam-band, jazz, and soul communities.
